1. How can we sing a song to the Lord in a foreign land?
2. What are the similarities and differences when we compare the Jewish experience in Babylon to the African Americans' exile experience in the United States?
3. What's in a name? What does your surname tell about your family's history?
4. In Alex Haley's Kunte Kinte [Roots} Kinte strongly resisted being called " Toby." What does it say about resistance, assimilation, and the problems it brings?
5. What does the poem " I Am an African" tell us about so-called savage or primitive African Beliefs?
6. After being in the United States for hundreds of years, are African Americans still in a Foreign land or can they sing, along with the other immigrants to this country, about their being in this land, one made for all people?
7. In what ways have African Americans in this foreign land maintained their faith?
8. Have you or anyone you know shed your lively inherited African expressions of faith in favor of a European interpretation of worship? How does your history come forth in the exercise of your faith?
