Guest Preacher

Minister DiOnetta Jones Crayton

Morning Star Baptist Church

Minister DiOnetta Jones Crayton grew up in a God-fearing home in a very small town called DeRidder (pronounced Dee-rid-der), Louisiana.  She is the third of eight children born to the late Mrs. Louella Jones Joseph. Although she is clearly embracing her New England lifestyle, and has lived in several other states and even the territory of Guam, she still considers herself a Southern girl at heart.

In January 2004, Min. Crayton accepted the Lord’s call to the ministry; and on April 25, 2004, Minister Crayton preached her first sermon. She was licensed and became the first female minister in the history of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana. In fact, April 2024, marked her 20th Anniversary in the ministry. Min. Crayton has been in Boston (and at Morning Star Baptist Church) since 2009. She moved to New England to take a position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); where she served as the Associate Dean and Director of the Office of Minority Education for over 14 years. She stepped down from the role in February of this year and has since completed a second Masters (in Christian Ministry), and will start a Doctor of Ministry degree (in Pastoral Theology in Practice) at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, this fall.

At Morning Star, Minister Crayton has been a faithful servant. She helped develop, implement, and served as the servant leader for the Ambassadors (New Members) Ministry for several years. She also chaired the MSBC Nominating Committee for three years and has been a member of the pastoral/ministerial team since joining MSBC. She has participated in workshops and served as keynote speaker for Women’s Conferences and Retreats, and she founded a new Sunday School class for women at Morning Star called WISE (Women in Search of Excellence) which she now teaches in collaboration with other women at Morning Star. Over 100 women have attended the class since its inception in November 2015. Min. DiOnetta is also a loving wife. On June 21, 2013, she married a member of MSBC and wonderful man of God, in the person of Bro. Tracy Neal Crayton. God continues to bless their union as they grow together in the Grace of God. They celebrated their 11th Anniversary on June 21st of this year.

Minister Crayton considers herself blessed to be able to serve God as a preacher, teacher, and servant. She remains a willing vessel and loves the Lord with all her heart. Her entire life, with all its many hills and valleys, is a testimony to the goodness of God! She genuinely believes that she is called to serve for such a time as this…

I TRUST IN GOD

Verse

Oh, thank you, Jesus, eh, eh

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine

He’s been my fourth man in the fire, time after time

Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood

And what He did for me on Calvary is more than enough

I trust in God, my Savior

The one, who will never fail

He will never fail

I trust in God, my Savior

The one, who will never fail

He will never fail

Verse

I’m praising my risen King and Saviour all the day long, oh oh
